Karachi: Student ‘tortured’ by school teacher seeks justice

KARACHI: Parents of a 12-year-old student are moving from pillar to post to get “justice” for their child who they claim was brutally tortured by one of his teachers at a private school, ARY News reported.

Shahmir, a student of grade eight in Karachi’s Aisha Bawany School, claims that on November 16, his teacher used a cane to beat him resulting in severe injuries on his hand and head but police has not even registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident.

Shahmir’s father, who is an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), told ARY News that he had his son’s medico-legal examination done at a hospital but the school management used their influence to get the medico-legal officer (MLO) was changed.

“The teacher told my child that he should change his statement (before police) and only say that he fell from his desk,” her mother told ARY News.

Normally, in such cases, police demands a medico-legal report before registering FIR but Shahmir and his parents are still waiting for that to be registered.

“The first MLO put all the facts in the medical report but then they (the school management) got it changed as their reputation is at stake,” the victim’s mother told ARY News.

Governor Sindh takes notice

As ARY News ran this news prominently, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail took notice of the incident and ordered police to register a FIR.

According to a statement released from governor’s office, Governor Sindh telephoned Inspector General Sindh Syed Kaleem Imam and ordered him to submit a report.

The governor further directed IG Sindh to get the FIR registered and initiate a transparent inquiry.

Peshawar security forces kill four suspected terrorists
