Today’s outlook: OIC meets on Kashmir, Pak-Afghan border reopens

Here are some of the news stories we are expecting to follow today (Monday)

  • The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has called a meeting of its Contact Group on the situation in Indian-administered Kashmir.
  • Pakistan cricket team players will be tested for the coronavirus. They’ll leave for a tour of England on June 28.
  • Asia’s biggest cattle market that is set up on Karachi’s Superhighway every year has been opened.
  • The Pakistan-Afghanistan Chaman border will be reopened from today for both the public and goods transportation.
  • A Lahore accountability court will hear an assets case against former LDA director-general Ahad Cheema. He’s accused of illegally obtaining assets worth billions of rupees.
  • Lahore’s weather has turned pleasant with the first rain of the monsoon season. The Met Office has predicted more showers in the city.
  • An investigation report into the PIA plane crash has been prepared and will be submitted to the Aviation Division today. CCTV footage of the belly landing has also been clubbed in the report.
  • The price of crude oil in gradually increasing in the international market.
  • ICYMI: Allama Talib Jauhari, one of Pakistan’s most well-respected and known Shia scholars, has passed away at a private hospital in Karachi at the age of 81. Click here to read the full story.

Peshawar security forces kill four suspected terrorists

The Peshawar Counter-Terrorism Department personnel gunned down four suspected terrorists after raiding their hideout on the Kohat Road Monday. According to the security forces, the suspects were plotting an attack. A cache of weapons and ammunition has been seized too. Headlines 9am: Karachi to face power outages, coronavirus cases rise

Here are the headlines from SAMAA TV’s 9am bulletin. Pakistan has begun reporting fewer coronavirus infections in the last couple of days. In the last 24 hours, 3,964 cases were reported with 105 deaths. Around 73,000 recoveries have been confirmed so far. Three people were killed in a collision between a motorcycle and ambulance on the Mehran highway. A child was injured as well. Robbers looted a house in Karachi’s Azizabad in broad daylight and in the presence of a policeman. The cop chased the thieves but they were able to escape. SAMAA TV has acquired a CCTV footage of the robbery. A terrorism bid has been foiled in Peshawar. During a raid, security forces eliminated four terrorists. A cache of weapons and ammunition has been recovered. Saudi Arabia has announced it would hold a “very limited” Hajj this year owing to the coronavirus pandemic, with pilgrims already in the kingdom allowed to take part.
