Chief justice directs for timely completion of Orange Line Metro Project in Lahore

Orange Line

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar has directed for timely completion of Orange Line Metro project in Lahore.

Hearing Punjab Mega Projects case on Thursday, the chief justice asked the concerned authorities to immediately prepare a strategy in this regard and inform the court accordingly.

He observed that citizens were facing immense difficulties due to non-completion of this project.

Earlier this month, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has acquired some critical documents revealing verified audit reservations in three mega projects involving senior bureaucrat Ahad Cheema.

Getting hands on the audit reports of Orange Line train, Metro Bus and Rawalpindi Bus is a pivotal development in NAB’s probe against Ahad Cheema.

According to sources, NAB officials wrote to the general manager of Mass Transit Authority in order to obtain the audit records of the projects as a proof against Ahad Cheema who is currently held in Ashiana Housing scheme scam.

After analyzing the audit reports, the corruption case against Ahad and other accused will ensue accordingly, as per the sources.

The project of Metro Bus Lahore was completed in Ahad’s tenure, whereas he made major contributions in Orange Line train project.

Cheema was arrested on February 21 after declaration of his fraudulent involvement and misuse of authority in Ashiyana-e-Iqbal Housing scheme, including corruption worth billions in a deal between Paragon Housing Society and Punjab Land Development Company.
