Met office warns of heavy rain in Karachi, issues urban flooding alert

KARACHI: Pakistan Met Office has warned of heavy rainfall in Karachi and issued red alert over likely urban flooding in the city on Friday, ARY News reported. Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast around 50 to 70mm rainfall in the port city along with heavy rainfall in coastal districts of Badin, in eight districts of Sindh. According to the PMD, the prevailing spell of rain in Sindh is very likely to intensify, producing moderate to heavy rains in the province particularly in Karachi, Thatta, Jamshoro, Dadu, Kambar-Shahdadkot, Nausheroferoz, Badin, Sanghar and Larkana districts till Friday evening. Due to likely heavy rainfall, the situation of urban flooding in Karachi may further be aggravated on Friday, with water logging in low lying areas of the city and isolated places in other parts of Sindh, the met office said. Occupied Kashmir: BBC reports shocking stories of torture, violence by Indian troops

International media is finally waking up to narrate the horrors inside occupied Kashmir, as British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported on Friday the accounts of innocents Kashmiris being mercilessly tortured by Indian troops.  “Security forces in Indian-administered Kashmir have been accused of carrying out beatings and torture in the wake of the government’s decision to strip the region of its autonomy.” The BBC said several villagers told the publication that they were beaten with sticks and cables and given electric shocks. In the occupied valley, “doctors and health officials are unwilling to speak to journalists about any patients regardless of ailments, but the villagers showed me injuries alleged to have been inflicted by security forces,” wrote the BBC correspondent. South Korean FM voices concerns over situation in occupied Kashmir

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha has voiced concerns over human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir. She expressed the sentiments during her phone conversation with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi who apprised her about the latest situation in occupied Kashmir, Radio Pakistan reported. The South Korean Foreign Minister said her country is keeping a close eye on developments in the region. She said breach of human rights is a serious issue which needs to be addressed. NAB to seek extension in Miftah Ismail, Imran ul Haq’s physical remand

ISLAMABAD: Former finance minister, Miftah Ismail and former Managing Director (MD) Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Imran ul Haq will be presented in the accountability court as their 11-day remand expired on Friday (today). According to the anti-graft watchdog, the LNG sector was suffering an annual loss of $228 thousand annually due to the underhanded practices carried out by aforesaid persons in the previous government. The NAB team will seek another extension in the remand of the accused. On last hearing of the case, an accountability court had extended physical remand of Miftah Ismail and Imran ul Haq in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) tender scandal.
