ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has allowed the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan to visit and inspect the NAB detention cenres, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The Chairman human rights commission and the members will inspect detention centres of the accountability bureau, a spokesperson of the commission said in a statement.

The human rights commission officials will visit the NAB detention centre in Lahore today, the statement said.

The members of the commission will also visit the NAB detention centres at Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar, the HRCP statement said.

There were complaints of inappropriate behaviour with the people being kept at detention centres of the accountability bureau during investigations, the commission added.

Scores of NAB detainees including some people on top seats facing accountability inquiries, complained about an inappropriate behavior with them at the detention centres of the accountability bureau.

The bureau faced public allegations after the death of Mian Javed Ahmed, a University of Sargodha professor who died in judicial custody after being detained by the NAB in a corruption inquiry. The bureau however in a statement distanced itself from the death of the professor.

Retired Brig Asad Munir, a Capital Development Authority officer, in his suicide note, had accused NAB of harassing him. He committed suicide a day after NAB’s executive board approved filing of a corruption reference against him and other former officials of the CDA.
