Aleem assets case: Court directs NAB to file probe report

LAHORE: An accountability court on Tuesday extended judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan until May 13 in the offshore companies and assets beyond means case.

Jail officials produced the PTI leader in the court upon completion of his judicial remand under tight security. Duty Judge Jawadul Hassan heard the case as Judge Syed Najmul Hassan was on leave.

During the hearing, the judge asked the NAB prosecutor to explain as to when the bureau will file a probe report saying the suspect is in jail but it has not filed a report yet. At this, the prosecutor replied many of the accused have been on the run due to which investigation couldn’t be completed.

He sought more time to submit a report and file a reference against Aleem Khan.

According to NAB, Aleem being the Secretary of Parkview Cooperative Housing Society, Member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab and Minister for Information Technology held public office and during the period was involved in acts of corruption and corrupt practices by way of accumulating assets beyond known sources of income within Pakistan and outside.

Furthermore, the bureau said, the accused established multiple companies with the purpose of real estate business and invested millions of rupees.

He has been accused of buying more than 900 kanal land in different villages of Lahore in the name of his company M/s A&A Pvt. Ltd. and also paid advances for additional 600 kanal land for which he could not account for the sources of the investments.

In year 2005 and 2006, apart from inland assets, he established offshore companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (UK) with these companies acquiring assets of extensive value which are beyond known sources of income of the accused.

Peshawar security forces kill four suspected terrorists

The Peshawar Counter-Terrorism Department personnel gunned down four suspected terrorists after raiding their hideout on the Kohat Road Monday. Headlines 9am: Karachi to face power outages, coronavirus cases rise
